Billed as the “World’s Richest Fishing Tournament” The Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments will soon be making their return to Cabo San Lucas and the Los Cabos area.
An annual event that is cherished by visitors and locals alike, the Bisbee’s brings a tangible energy to the entire region and especially to the Cabo San Lucas Marina where the events and spectacles have been referred to as “5 days of chaos and hard core excitement”. The Bisbee’s has grown into an annual celebration of the Sportfishing which has it’s roots in the very history of Los Cabos Activities.
In 2006 the Black & Blue had its biggest overall cash payout of $4,165,960. This was, and remains, the largest payout in sportfishing history.
We would be remiss, when discussing the Bisbee’s, to not mention the incredible effort made by the Tournament organizers back in October of 2014. Barely a month had passed since destruction of Hurricane Odile. The entire region was trying to get back on it’s feet and the prospect of holding that year’s tournament was a daunting one. The Bisbee organizers felt a debt to Los Cabos for all of the support over the years and soldiered on to put on a scaled down version of the tournament despite the limited resources. Furthermore The Bisbee people secured the support of a foundation to pay the tournament entry fees for any team hiring a local boat and crew. The effort and the gesture by the Bisbee’s organizers was uplifting to a community in need and will not be soon forgotten.
In the ultimate display of serendipity the 2014 grand prize was won by he boat entered by The Casa Hogar Cabo, the local orphanage. Watch Rachel Maddow’s segment on this particular “miracle”, it’s very inspiring.
